Frequently Asked Questions
Your comfort and understanding are very important. Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about colon hydrotherapy and how it works.
We understand that having a colonic for the first time can feel a little nerve-wracking and may bring up questions—that’s completely normal. If there’s anything you’re unsure about or can’t find here, please feel free to get in touch. I’m always happy to support and guide you.

No, colon hydrotherapy does not make your bowels lazy. The gentle flow of water used during a session can actually help support and stimulate the natural movement of the colon (peristalsis).
Rather than weakening the bowel, many people find it helps encourage more regular and natural function by giving the colon a gentle “reset” and support.
-
Yes, most people are able to return to their normal daily activities after a session. Many clients feel lighter, clearer, and more relaxed, with some also noticing improved energy.
Occasionally, you may experience mild, temporary symptoms such as slight fatigue, light-headedness, or increased elimination as your body continues to adjust—this is completely normal.
If it’s your first session, it can be nice to allow some extra time afterwards to rest and take things slowly. If you have any questions or concerns, I’m always here to support you.

No, this is a common misconception. Your body is always naturally eliminating both good and non-beneficial bacteria as part of normal bowel function.
During a colonic, waste, gas, and excess build-up are gently removed from the colon. This may include some bacteria, however this is part of the body’s natural cycle of elimination.
If the gut is not functioning optimally, it can often contain a higher level of non-beneficial bacteria. Supporting the colon to clear excess build-up can help create a more balanced environment for healthy gut bacteria to thrive.
At the end of your session, a probiotic drink is provided, and guidance may be given around supporting your gut with probiotic and prebiotic-rich foods to help maintain a healthy balance.
Lifestyle factors such as diet, stress, and medications also play a significant role in gut health, so taking a supportive, whole-body approach is always encouraged.

Preparation is simple, and the main focus is staying well hydrated and keeping meals light.
In the 24 hours leading up to your session, aim to drink plenty of water to help support your body and soften waste in the colon.
We recommend:
Drinking 1–2 litres of water (finishing at least 2 hours before your appointment)
Eating light, easily digestible meals such as fruits, soups, or steamed vegetables
Avoiding heavy, greasy, or highly processed foods on the day
Avoiding turmeric, beetroot, or green supplements before your session
Coming in well-hydrated and lightly nourished will help you feel more comfortable and get the most out of your treatment.

Colonics should not be painful. Most clients describe the experience as unusual at first, but generally gentle and comfortable.
You may feel a sense of fullness or mild cramping at times which usually passes quickly as your body releases.
Some people may also feel slightly nauseous during the session, but this typically settles once the release occurs and the toxins release from the body.
Your comfort is always the priority. at Tas Flow Colonics your therapists is with you throughout the entire session, guiding you and making adjustments as needed. If at any point you feel uncomfortable, the treatment can be paused or stopped at any time.
Most clients leave feeling lighter, clearer, and more refreshed after their session.
-
No, they work quite differently.
Laxatives stimulate the bowel to empty, but they don’t always address the underlying cause of constipation and can sometimes lead to side effects like bloating, cramping, or dehydration—especially with frequent use.
Enemas generally only reach the lower part of the colon (the rectum and sigmoid), so their effect is more limited.
Colon hydrotherapy works more gently and supports the colon as a whole, helping to encourage natural elimination and overall bowel function. It’s often chosen by people looking for a more supportive and holistic approach to gut health.

Yes, many clients find that colon hydrotherapy can help reduce bloating. By gently clearing built-up waste and gas from the colon, it can create more space and relieve that heavy, uncomfortable feeling.
However, bloating can have many underlying causes—such as diet, food sensitivities, or imbalances within the gut. After your session, we can discuss what may be contributing to your symptoms and ways to better support your digestion moving forward.
